Rio Ferdinand highlighted Anthony Martial as the biggest beneficiary of Jose Mourinho’s sacking at Manchester United.

The Frenchman was signed in 2015 for £58m by then manager Louis Van Gaal and burst on-to-the scene at a very early age.

Jose Mourinho took over the club in 2016 and Martial struggled for a first-place in the team.

It seemed as if he would’ve been offloaded if Mourinho remained at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman was reborn when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer succeeded Mourinho in December 2018.

Martial is enjoying the best season of his career adding a whopping 22 goals to his tally and with just five games left, that number will likely increase.

Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “I think Anthony Martial was probably the main one, for me, that needed rebuilding.

“Jose Mourinho brings in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, takes his number nine shirt. What that does for a player’s confidence I cannot tell you. It absolutely zaps the confidence out of you.

“He’s a poacher, a six-yard box player, scoring the scruffy goals, if you like. But he can also bring other people into the game.

“The intensity with which he plays, the skill, the guile that he’s got. This is what I love about him . He’s doing everything you’d want from a number nine right now.

“This is what we saw when he first burst onto the scene for Man United as a teenager. He came in scoring absolute world-beater goals, taking people on and driving at people.

“The dribbling, that’s world-class football what you’re seeing there. What I love about him is his intensity has changed, his whole body language has changed, there’s a new positivity about him.

“He’s somebody that is enjoying having the belief of the current manager. That’s what you need.

“No matter what level you are as a player, you need the backing and the belief from your manager to be able to put what you have on show.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised his side for being able to challenge for top 4.

The team that spent over 200 million in the market in the last 12 months has now been fighting to break into the top 4.

And Ole has now told the team to show some personality.

“It was a tight game, didn’t get the rhythm in our passing but two fantastic goals won it for us,” he told BT Sport.

“We need to smile, we need to go into this like we’ve earned this right. Nobody thought this in January, that we were in with a shout of the top four.

“We’ve done fantastic since the restart. We’ve got to smile, got to enjoy it, these are the games that matter at Manchester United. You’ve got to step up and show your personality.”

“The finish was great but also the build-up with some quick, interchanging passing, but we didn’t do it enough, and we don’t do it enough, because they are a handful to play against,” Solskjaer added.

“I’m glad I’m not a defender playing against them – they need to trust themselves to do that more.

“We needed the second goal, that’s when they started strutting about as well as they can.”

What a difference a few months can make!

After being all but sure about leaving the club, Paul Pogba could now be set to stay at Manchester for the next five years.

A few years of turmoil since Pogba joined the club back in 2016 and he was all set to leave this summer. Falling out with Jose, the previous manager, not playing his best game with United, repeatedly being attacked as below average despite costing so much and flattering attention from Juventus, Real Madrid and even PSG and Barcelona – meant Pogba was all set to end his doomed spell with United.

The final nail on the coffin was put by his agent Mino Raiola when he expressed direct displeasure with Ole and United.

However, the next few months since the beginning of this year has been extremely good for United. The signing of Bruno Fernandes has given the club a new key midfield maestro and Pogba has been unlocked and has enjoyed his football since returning for the club.

The situation is reportedly on its mend now and United want to tie down their star player Pogba now with a new contract worth five years.

Do you think he will sign it?

Matic urges teammate Paul Pogba to stay at United for a long time.

Nemanja Matic hopes Pogba will stay at Old Trafford for a ‘long time.’

The 31-year old formed an impressive partnership with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the midfield, helping United continue their unbeaten run to 18 matches in all competitions.

Pogba’s future at United has for quite some time been the subject of extreme speculation, with remarks from his agent Mino Raiola causing a friction earlier in the 2019-20 season.

Yet, the financial effect of the coronavirus pandemic and the club’s upswing in form since the World Cup champ came back to the pitch to join new signing Fernandes have prompted expanded expectations he will remain.

“I think at the moment he is happy,” Matic, who signed a three-year contract this month, said to Stats Perform News.

“When you are injured and outside of the pitch people will always talk and rumours will always be around him, but he can do anything.

“As soon as he came back to training with us and playing I think he has shown that he is happy to play football and he is a great guy.

“I think for me it is very important that Paul stays because that gives us more quality. Also, with his personality, he brings a lot to the team.

“Of course, you never know what is going to happen in life but I see him happy at the moment.

“I wish for him to stay, I wish for the team. It is good he is a great guy for the group there is always fun around him. I will be happy to see him for a long time at Manchester United.”

Ole Solskjaer Worried Over Key Injuries Ahead Of Leicester Tie

0

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was concerned with both of his left-backs out injured following the 2-2 draw against Southampton.

“Luke twisted his ankle,” Solskjaer said at the post-match press conference. “Hopefully, we can have some good news on him after we’ve done a scan.

Talking about Williams’ injury, the head coach replied, “I can’t say, I’ve not seen Brandon because he was with the medical staff and I think he was getting some stitches with a gash over his eye. So let’s see how he is.”

United finished the game with 10 men on the pitch when Williams had to be withdrawn. According to substitute rules, Solskjaer could not use a replacement since he had taken players off earlier. That resulted in Southampton equalizing late into the fixture.

“I don’t know if you want to look into those rules,” he said. “Obviously, it was a bad cut and Brandon couldn’t see out of his eye. [The referee] stopped the game when the Southampton centre-back got a calf injury, I didn’t understand that one early in the second half. I don’t know, it is what it is, we didn’t have too many minutes to see it out with 10 men and we should have done better.”

If both players are ruled out by Thursday, Solskjaer will be forced to switch up his team. Diogo Dalot is the most likely to get a run at the position.

Sir Alex Ferguson thrilled by Mason Greenwood and Scott Mctominay Man United displays.

The former Manchester United boss has been in regular contact with Solskjaer and he likes the way United have emerged post-lockdown.

United have been in exhilarating form since the league restarted.

According to reports, Ferguson has been delighted with the performances of Mason Greenwood and Scott Mctominay.

“Alex has been enjoying the recent weeks of football’s return and the way United have emerged from lockdown,” a source told the Daily Mirror.

“For someone still full of energy, he’s not at his best cooped up and is looking forward to returning to Old Trafford when it’s safe to do so.

“But he’s been delighted the way Solskjaer is managing the team and I believe they have spoken a couple of times in the last few weeks.

“He’s especially heartened by the emergence of the younger players like Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood.

“He managed United for an awful long time during good times and bad so he knows it’s not an easy job, particularly when things aren’t going well.

“That’s why he’s pleased at Solskjaer’s progress. He knows Ole is showing the grit and determination needed but also the bravery to make hard decisions.”

Scott Mctominay made his name at the club under Jose Mourinho and has been a great deal in recent times.

Mason Greenwood has been in sumptuous form since football restarted and has scored four goals and made one assist in his last four Premier League outings.

Grealish Set To Move From Villa This Summer Amid Man United Links

Grealish Set To Move From Villa This Summer Amid Man United Links

Aston Villa captain Grealish has more reason to move from the club by the day, according to Stiliyan Petrov, former Villa player.

Jack Grealish has been speculated to move to Manchester United, among other clubs – like Man City.

Speaking to Stats Perform News, Petrov said: “As a Villa fan I’d love him to stay. Jack likes to compete, he wants to do that at the highest level. He loves the club. He showed that in the Championship, he helped us get promotion, he battled hard in the Premier League.

“If that moment comes [when Grealish leaves], it would be sad to see because he is an exceptional person, not just player. But as a club, have we done enough to keep him?

“I don’t think so and it’s a big problem going forward as a club, because we may get good players through the youth system, but can we do enough to keep them?

“If he goes, I don’t think he can be blamed.”

The reason he won’t stay back at this club is due to the fact that the club is facing relegation and naturally, shall be looking to move come summer. A player like Grealish would like to grow as a player, and with United, the chances seem greater.

“Jack has a growth mindset,” Petrov said. “He likes to improve, he wants to achieve.

“He likes to be in the spotlight, wants to be counted. He wants to compete at the highest level.

“Of course, he will generate interest from the top clubs because he does perform. If you remember, Pep Guardiola said he’s one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

“That compliment comes from one of the best managers in the world. Those managers don’t waste their words saying this about someone who doesn’t deserve it.

“That’s why Pep came out and said he’s one of the best and his performances this season have attracted attention. It’s completely normal.”

Gary Neville believes United’s front three will only get better

Gary Neville sends warning to Liverpool about Man United’s front three.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes that United’s front three of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood has the ability to match Liverpool’s front three.

Greenwood has been the talk of the town netting four goals in his last four matches with the latest one featuring in Aston Villa game.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and teenage sensation Mason Greenwood has a combined age of just 21 years. Despite their tender age, the trio has scored 56 goals in all competitions between them.

“Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are matured, they are established, they are the real deal – the best front three in the Premier League. I was saying that even when Manchester City were winning the league,” Neville told the Gary Neville podcast.

“The three that United have got are not at the level of Liverpool’s front three yet, you wouldn’t expect them to be, but they have the talent and ability.

“There were questions whether Rashford was good enough, whether Martial was good enough and Greenwood hadn’t obviously emerged back then, but they are proving they are good enough, that they can play and that they will get better.

“The Liverpool front three are ahead, but it is exciting for Manchester United.

“If you believe in young players and give them opportunities in the positions they want to play in, you will be amazed what you can achieve.”

Villa boss fuming at farce penalty by VAR in United defeat

Villa boss fuming at farce penalty by VAR in United defeat

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith was an angry man after his team’s 3-0 loss to United.

The Red Devils did take charge of the match but had a massive stroke of luck which rolled the ball in their favor to begin with. With scores tied at 0-0 till the 27th minute, it was a blatant wrong call by referee Jon Moss to award Manchester United a penalty for a foul made by an United player!

What was more shocking however, was that VAR, the technology installed to overrule such horrendous refereeing mistakes stuck with the decision despite clearly seeing on replay footage who was at fault for the foul!

Naturally, Villa boss Smith was an unhappy man.

He said: “How someone in the studio who had the view I had only once can make that decision is beyond me. Five minutes after the game the 100 messages I’ve had from people who have watched it telling me it’s a disgraceful decision tells me my feelings were right.

“I went down to the dugout and saw it on the camera and thought it would be overturned straight away. Anyone in football knows Fernandes is trying the dragback, he puts his foot on the ball and stands on Ezri.

“We always felt that was what VAR was brought in for (to get decisions right) but obviously it’s still becoming human error, going from one man’s opinion to another.

“There have been some really poor VAR decisions this season, which is unfortunate for a system which was supposed to help the big decisions.”

Well, all said and done United ended up with 3 points and a comprehensive win at the end.

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed De Gea as the best keeper in the world for ten years.

David De Gea is poised to overtake United legend Peter Schmeichel in appearances for Manchester United when they visit Villa Park on Thursday.

The Spaniard joined United in 2011 for £17.8million from Atletico Madrid. His form recently has come under scrutiny due to a number of high-profile mistakes in his recent games.

Peter Schmeichel insisted that De Gea is the right goalkeeper for United over long-term and Solskjaer also believes that he is the world’s best.

“David has had some fantastic seasons here now and next year is his 10th,” Solskjaer said ahead of United’s away Premier League game against Aston Villa on Thursday.

“He has proven [former goalkeeping coach] Eric Steele right, that we believed in him.

“He had a little bit of a tough ride early on, with the physicality of football in England, but, for me, he has been the best goalkeeper in the world over the last nine or 10 years.

“Just to work with him closely, you see he’s still keen to learn, he’s still working hard.

“Richard Hartis coming in with Craig Mawson as the coaches, I think they’ve reignited a little bit of a spark in David and he’s working really hard in training.”
