Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Impressed By Manchester United's Solid Defensive Display Against Leicester City

Ole Gunnar Solskaje has hailed his side’s defensive display following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford continued his brilliant form as he netted the only goal of the match. The win lifted United to fifth position just two points within fourth placed Chelsea.

Paul Pogba again proved his mettle as he set up Rashford with a beautifully lofted ball and the United academy product finished with super precision.

Leicester ramped up the intensity in the second half but the defensive pairing of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly stood tall and denied every possible attack to keep the Red Devils alive in the top four race.

Solskjaer insists he is very pleased with the way his defenders have performed. “Fantastic to have a clean sheet.

“And they played well against Arsenal together. Today, we started a little sloppy – Eric knows – but they really came good.

“It’s a first [clean sheet] in a while, we’ve had three games now, Burnley, Brighton and Arsenal, where we’ve conceded after a couple of clean sheets, but that’s important for us.

“When you’ve got players like Rashford, Pogba, Martial, Sanchez, all them quick ones up top, you’ve got a great chance of winning the game, that’s the foundation of a proper solid, defensive performance, and the keeper of course, two fantastic saves today as well. He’s kept us in it.

“Of course it was [heart-stopping] towards the end. When you’re 1-0 up, anything can happen in that box and I think that Harry Maguire has got a magnet on his head! Because it always dropped to him, a fantastic player in the box.

“So we knew we had to defend against him but our lads, they blocked, they put their body on the line so it was a fantastic effort and they were fighting for each other.

“Leicester are a good team and we knew this was going to be one of these games that if you don’t get the first goal, if they can counter-attack on you, you’re struggling.

“But we started well, got the first goal, so very pleased today.”

Molde Owners Told Me Not To Come Back: Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that while he was departing for Old Trafford, the owners of his former club Molde told him not to come back to the Norweigan outfit. The interim gaffer is yet to lose a match in his tenure at the helm of Manchester United after nine outings in all competitions.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match against Leicester City, the former Champions League winning striker said, “When I rang the owner and said that United had called and that he always knew that this had been my dream, he said: “Go over, enjoy yourself – and please don’t come back”.”

He also revealed that he is in constant touch with the legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and catches up with him after every home game. He said, “I go and visit him after every game in his lounge at Old Trafford and it is great to see him well and healthy. I have a football chat with him and his friends. Of course he still has a good eye for the game.”

He added, “We don’t speak every week but we keep bumping into each other at the stadium. He has also been to training a couple of times which is great for him too. To be fair, it has been horrendous weather when he has come to training! I think he enjoys watching football and now with Darren back (son Darren Ferguson has been appointed Peterborough manager), he might spend some time there too.”

Claude Puel Believes They Can Hurt Manchester United

Claude Puel Believes They Can Hurt Manchester United

Claud Puel insists Leicester City can end Manchester United’s unbeaten run.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to turn the fortunes at Manchester United since the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. Top four had seemed to be a distant dream for the Red Devils following their dismal start but they are now just two points adrift of fourth placed Arsenal.

United have been on a wonderful run off late beating the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on the way but they have shown some vulnerability in the last game against Burnley and Puel must have taken note of that.

Leicester do have the ammunition to stage an upset and the former Southampton manager believes they will certainly pose a threat to United. “They are on a nine-game unbeaten run with many [eight] wins but Liverpool also was a team without losing a lot of points at home, but we showed a lot of quality.

“It was the same against Chelsea and against (Manchester) City. I don’t say we can make an upset all the time against the big teams but it will be a good challenge. I think we play a good game against a big teams.

“I hope, to show these good qualities against United. We know we can make a difference.”

“If we can give a good feeling, a good spirit and a good attitude on the pitch, we can give our best all the time on Sunday and it would be fantastic if we can give a reward to our fans because at home we did not perform well enough. Against United, it would be perfect.”

Ander Herrera Hails Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Influence On The Players

Ander Herrera Hails Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Influence On The Players

Ander Herrera insists Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s capability to click with players has been the main reason behind Manchester United’s revival.

Herrera has turned out to be the missing portion of the jigsaw puzzle that the Red Devils have been searching for quite a long time. The tireless midfielder has helped Solskjaer in the smooth transition of the side and has emerged as one of the key players in this new regime.

His energy in the middle of the pitch was severely felt as United huffed and puffed against a strong Burnley side. Andres Pereira did very little to justify his selection and Herrera is likely to be brought in when the Red Devils visit Leicester City on Sunday.

Herrera said, “Ole had that click with some players that they are performing at their best.

“He is getting the best from Rashford, he is getting the best from Paul, he is getting the best from Anthony, from Jesse. That’s not easy.

“When you are a manager, we sometimes speak too much about tactics. But the most difficult thing for a manager is to get the best from his best players and this manager is doing it. We have all seen it.”

“I have been told a lot of times ‘you should wear the armband in the future’ but I don’t need i

“I don’t go crazy with that. I think the best thing a team can have is different leaders. We need it from all the players.

“Of course I am very thankful to the fans that feel I can be the captain or the leader of the club but I honestly don’t think that we should have only one. I feel I could be a leader in some moments but I don’t think I am the only leader at the club.”

Neville Gives His Verdict On Who Is A Better Choice For Man United, Poch Or Ole

Former Manchester United defender turned football expert Gary Neville has said that his opinion of having Mauricio Pochettino as the Manchester United gaffer next season has been somewhat swayed by the brilliant performances of the side under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Neville has been very much vocal about the selection of the Argentine as the new manager at Old Trafford but the Norweigan, who is yet to lose a match in his tenure as the interim manager at Manchester United, has been tipped to become the new permanent manager at Old Trafford next term.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the former England international said, “The win over Spurs changed my thinking a little bit. [Solskjaer] got it right and in the first half won the tactical battle.”

He added, “Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the best person for the job? If the answer is ‘yes’ at the end of the season because he’s got them into the top four and they’ve won the FA Cup, you’d say: ‘How can you not give him the job?’ I’m not going to change from this. I said United should go for the best off the pitch football brain in the world and the best head coach in the world they can get.”

Neville added, “And if that’s Ole at the end of the season … I go back to that Pochettino always was the one who stood out for me as the one, in terms of the football, values and bringing through young players, like what he’s done at Tottenham and Southampton. Over a period of time it feels to me like he would be the natural choice.”

Manchester United To Launch Summer Move For Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are considering to make a summer move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils have emerged as a surprise suitor for the youngster and could raid the club later after the end of this ongoing season. Sancho knocked back Manchester City’s lucrative £30,000 a week offer and moved to Germany in 2017.

Initially the transfer seemed to be an inappropriate one as the youngster did take some time to acclimatize to the conditions of the Bundesliga. But this season he has been a revelation for the German outfit.

The teenager has lit up the top flight with his attacking antics and has been involved in 15 goals so far. His brilliant form has triggered interest among the top European clubs and United are likely to launch an attempt in the summer.

Dortmund are unlikely to sanction the sale of their prized asset and have slapped a price tag of £90 on the player. It shouldn’t be a matter of concern for the Red Devils who do have a healthy financial structure and can afford the transfer very much.

Manchester City do have the buyback option for the player but Pep Guardiola is unlikely to go for a player who rejected to play under his guidance.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Believes Young Duo Should Score More To Emulate Cristiano Ronaldo

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Believes Young Duo Should Score More To Emulate Cristiano Ronaldo

According to Manchester United’s interim manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford need to score the relatively easy tap-ins more consistently in order to emulate the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils head coach said, “That [emulating Ronaldo] is up to any player if you make a decision on how to develop your own career. Cristiano was the best, the way he’s changed to now. That’s part of any player, you’ve got to model yourself on someone, but you’ve got to have more challenges ahead of you and for Marcus and Anthony it is to score more simple tap-ins.”

“He [Martial] has the capability [to score 20 goals in a season] but I’d like him to make a few more runs in behind because he doesn’t miss chances, he’s a fantastic finisher.”

“He needs to get more chances, you’ve got to read and sniff wherever there’s a chance, maybe some scruffy goals at times. Him and Marcus score loads of worldly goals but those tap-ins and making them runs could go a long way to do that.”

Both Rashford and Martial have been fighting for game time ever since the duo met at Old Trafford. However, Solskjaer believes there is no reason why both of them cannot feature in the same lineup every game.

“Yeah, it’s healthy competition but they can also create a relationship and get an understanding of each other because both are very good coming in off the left,” added Solskjaer.

“If one plays central then it’s opposite movements because they go out to in, but when they play central they go in to out, so in the coming years we’ll see loads of combinations between those two.”

Phil Jones Hails The Impact Of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Phil Jones Hails The Impact Of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Phil Jones has underlined the importance of having ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he insists the introduction of the former Manchester United forward has brought in massive changes at the club.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho who had a torrid time managing the club. The last few months of his tenure disrupted the regular proceedings at the club but Solskjaer has ensured things don’t get too messy at the Old Trafford.

United are unbeaten since he has been given the charge and have emerged a potential candidate for a place in the top four. The Red Devils have somewhat overturned their recent form and have been on a good run lately.

Jones has heaped praises on his manager. “He’s brought a freshness about the place.

“He’s come in and wanted to move us forward and bring those happy times back, and I think he’s done that.

“His man-management skills are very good. He’ll let players know what’s happening, and as players that’s all you can ask for.

“You just want a manager to be honest with you, and that’s exactly what he gives you.”

He further added, “We’ve achieved nothing. We might have gone on a little run and everyone’s talking about us, but it means nothing.

“We’re outside the top four which is obviously not where we want to be, and we have to make sure we finish in the top four.

“Come the end of the season, if we do – OK we’ve not had a successful season – but we’ve made the best out of it that we can.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Calls On Anthony Martial To Ramp Up The Intensity

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Calls On Anthony Martial To Ramp Up The Intensity

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged Anthony Martial to sharpen his skills in a bid to score more goals for Manchester United.

The 23 year old just extended his stay by another five years and is likely to be United’s main attacking threat alongside Marcus Rashford. The French international was on the verge of leaving the club in the summer but the arrival of Solskjaer has eased the proceedings and it has reflected pretty evidently as the French international has gone onto put pen to paper to a new long term contract.

Martial’s partnership with Rashford has been one of the most talked about things but the pair hasn’t really flourished so far. But in this new free flowing style, Martial has shown flashes of brilliance which could really help the Red Devils for the remaining part of the season.

Solskjaer said, “I’d like him to make a few more runs in behind. He doesn’t miss chances. He’s a fantastic finisher, so he needs to get more chances.

“I keep telling him you need to read and sniff whether there’s going to be a chance. Maybe get some scruffy goals as well.

“Him and Marcus (Rashford) score lots of ‘worldy’ goals, but those five or six extra goals that I used to do with tap-ins, by making those runs, go a long way.”

Manchester United May Have Found A Solution To Their Midfield Woes In Nicolo Barella

Manchester United May Have Found A Solution To Their Midfield Woes In Nicolo Barella

Manchester United may have found a long term solution as the Red Devils are believed to be interested in Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The Italian international has been on the headlines for his link up with Chelsea but Maurizio Sarri is unlikely to get his service. Chelsea have refused to meet Cagliari’s demand of £45m and their interest in the player have cooled off.

United are yet to lodge a formal bid for the youngster but he could be the perfect player to lead the Red Devils midfield. Interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has mostly preferred Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in a midfield three to drive the team from the middle of the park.

Matic has been the defensive shield providing an extra layer of protection just before the backline while Herrera has been doing all the dirty work. These two has managed to put Pogba in the control of the creative work and the French midfielder is having a wonderful season so far.

Barella could be the midfield engine United have been searching for long. His playmaking skills from the deep would help the likes of Paul Pogba as the French midfielder has been at the forefront of all United strategy.
